Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between GenScripts and other pharmacies in the Tulsa Area?
GenScripts is a unique kind of pharmacy because we cater only to the self-pay customer. It is our goal to serve the prescription needs of patients who personally pay for their own pharmaceutical care.
Can I know the price of my prescription before its filled?
Yes! It is our policy to always pre-price your prescription before it is filled. You are even welcome to phone-in (918-835-2112) a prescription to get a price quote before you bring in your prescription.
Do I have to pay a fee or somehow “qualify” to trade at GenScripts Pharmacy?
No! Your physician’s prescription is filled on-site by our pharmaceutical professionals. You can visit personally with our pharmacists and you simply pay for your own medication.
How good are your prices?
GenScripts can save you “up to 50% off” of what you normally pay for your prescription at a local pharmacy. Our prices generally meet or beat mail-order and internet pharmacies and we often have lower prices than drugs sold as generics in Canada.
How does GenScripts extend such favorable prices?
No third party discounts, no time-consuming insurance hassles and strict management of overhead costs all contribute to enable us to offer you an inexpensive and personal pharmaceutical alternative.
Does GenScripts only dispense generic drugs?
No! We supply both brand name and generic drugs. Generics are able to be filled immediately and brand name prescriptions are fulfilled in full trade packages on next business day.
Who is a “self-pay” customer?
A “self-pay” customer is a person who pays for prescriptions out-of-pocket, without the benefit of insurance. This may include people who are self-employed, retired or unable to afford insurance. It is also common for a customer to have insurance benefits, but their particular prescription is excluded from their insurance plan or the plan does not include prescription benefits. In addition to people without insurance coverage, people with Health Savings Accounts can significantly stretch their medical dollars by selecting GenScripts as their pharmacy.
Exactly what is a “Generic Drug?”
The term "generic" has several meanings in regards to prescription drugs:
- Generics use the chemical or scientific name for the drug.
- A term referring to the chemical makeup of a drug rather than to the advertised brand name under which the drug is sold and trade marked as.
- A term referring to any drug marketed under its chemical name and not using the trade marked name of its inventor.
Generic drugs are generally less expensive than brand-name drugs, even though they are chemically identical to brand-name drugs. They meet the same standards of the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) as the brand name drug for safety, purity and effectiveness. Generic drugs can be legally produced in the US if an original creator’s patent has expired, or for drugs which have never been patented. The expiration of a patent removes the monopoly of the patent holder on drug sale licensing.
Why do drug medications cost so much?
In the United States, we do not have controlled pricing for prescription drugs. The consumer price for a medication is set high to cover the cost the drug company incurs for research and development, testing, federal approval, and marketing. All this takes a considerable amount of funding before the medication is even ready to put on the market. In order to make a profit, the pharmaceutical companies must factor in all of those costs into the pricing of the medication. Making a profit is the main incentive for drug companies to invest in the risk involved in developing new medicines.
How can I move my prescriptions from another pharmacy to GenScripts?
It’s really easy! Call us at (918) 835-2112 and we take care of the transfer for you.
